REACH Prep is seeking an experienced independent school educator to teach mathematics to rising sixth graders at its Summer Prep Academy at The Greenwich Country Day School beginning June 2023. As members of our hardworking team of teachers and administrators, Prep Academy faculty prepares highly talented and motivated students for entry into independent schools and, ultimately, matriculation to and graduation from college. REACH Prep’s curriculum seeks to improve
students’ mathematical skills and to build a strong foundation for the rigorous academic environment of independent schools. The rising sixth graders will continue with Algebra and explore basic Geometry. The curriculum is rigorous; however, there is flexibility to make modifications. This role is suited for someone who cares deeply about education and wants to make a tangible and positive difference in the lives of children.
The Summer Mathematics Teacher will be responsible for a variety of tasks and projects, including the following:
Teach two sections of math for rising sixth-grade students, including planning, assessment, and reporting at the mid-point and end of the six-week program
Support students during designated office hours
Participate in our Pre-Prep Academy sessions on Saturday, June 10 and Saturday, June 24, 8:30 – 1pm.
Communicate with parents, students, and colleagues.
Engage in weekly program-wide faculty meetings; give updates on all students
Lead a club of elective: faculty are no required to lead an afternoon club/elective; the ability to do so would be an asset
Qualifications and Eligibility:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (Masters/teaching credential preferred)
Ability to teach middle school level Pre-algebra, Algebra I, and Geometry.
Ability to connect with students at the late elementary school/early middle school level
Relevant experience teaching and assessing student learning in Grade 6.
Currently employed as a Mathematics or STEM teacher
Strong candidates have a minimum of three years teaching experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
